About half way between Phoenix and Sedona is a rest area known as Sunset Point where we usually stop. We’ve not seen a sunset there yet but the panorama above was taken on one of our stops there.

We have visited Sedona 2 additional times since our first trip to Arizona in 2012.  Its about a two hour drive north from the Phoenix airport.  During the first trip in 2012, we stayed in the downtown area and also west of town on 89a.  On our next two visits, we stayed in the Village of Oak Creek – located a few miles south of Sedona on rte 179.  We prefer that area because its a bit quieter and has many shops and restaurants within walking distance as well as easy access to Bell Rock and other hiking areas a short drive away.

With its beautiful red rock landscape, hiking trails, galleries, restaurants and shops, Sedona is an ideal place to visit.  We prefer to visit in the Spring and Fall when temperatures are more bearable for us native New Englanders.

There are many places to visit and explore in Sedona and the surrounding area.  If you have a time limit or are otherwise unable to hike, there are many jeep tours that will bring to remote locations.  There are many other places we have yet to visit in there.  See our list below for places of interest and links to their websites which we have enjoyed during our visits to Sedona:

Amitabha Stupa   A Buddhist Stupa and Peace Park located on 89a on the west end of Sedona.

Bell Rock Trail  A beautiful trail and vista convenient to the nearby Village of Oak Creek.

Cathedral Rock Trail A very nice hike. I made it to the top with two arthritic knees.

Chapel of the Holy Cross  An interesting piece of architecture with a nice vista.

Crescent Moon Ranch State Park   Hiking trails, picnic area. Be sure to check out Buddha Beach.

Coffee Pot Restaurant  Named after the nearby Coffee Pot Rock, a great place to get breakfast.

Tlaquepaque  Arts and crafts, restaurants in a traditional Mexican architectural design.

Thai Palace Uptown  Authentic Thai cuisine located near the center of town.

The Views Inn of Sedona  We stayed there in October 2014. It was affordable and clean, very nice staff, outdoor pool and jacuzzi and good location.
