Slater Park Landscape

“Slater Park Landscape No. 1 BW” is a black and white landscape photograph taken at Slater Park in Pawtucket, RI. The early morning fog helped to enhanced the beauty, atmosphere and luminosity of the image.

ABOUT THE PRINTS:

I currently have over 500 images to choose from and add new work on a regular basis.  Some of the work is taken during travel while other images are taken locally in New England.  The photomontage images are often created by combining two or more images taken in different places and times.

High quality prints are available in a variety of sizes, print surfaces and framing options including prints, canvas, acrylic and metal and framed. Prices vary depending on size, surface and framing.

Fine Art America is the order fulfillment service and handles order processing, printing and shipping. They offer a 30 day satisfaction guarantee (return policy) if returned within 30 days of the order date. Click here to see their guarantee.

Also available are greeting cards, iPhone phone cases and galaxy phone cases.  Although the price for a single greeting card is high ($8.95) the per card price drops when packages of 10 or 25 are purchased.  The greeting is 5″ x 7″ size and very good print quality.  Because of this, some people like to purchase a greeting card and buy their own inexpensive matte and frame at Michaels, Walmart or other outlets.  That enables them to acquire a small inexpensive artwork which they can frame themselves and hang in their home or office or give as a gift.

Texture Overlays

Sometimes the moment an image is captured in the camera is only the beginning. You sense some potential in the scene, the light and atmosphere when the photo is first taken. Adding a texture overlay can enhance the atmosphere and add a painterly effect to a photograph. In the example below, from left to right are thumbnails of the original image, an image of clouds and a texture purchased from Flypaper Textures.

The clouds and texture are placed in layers over the original image and different blending modes (usually overlay or softlight) are used in conjunction with different opacities to create the desired effect. The amount of effect and its placement in the image is further controlled via layer masks.

In this example a gradient map in the color blending mode was also selectively applied to parts of the image.

The final image, titled “Early One Morning” is shown below.

Southwestern Travel Part 2 – Sedona

About half way between Phoenix and Sedona is a rest area known as Sunset Point where we usually stop. We’ve not seen a sunset there yet but the panorama above was taken on one of our stops there.

We have visited Sedona 2 additional times since our first trip to Arizona in 2012.  Its about a two hour drive north from the Phoenix airport.  During the first trip in 2012, we stayed in the downtown area and also west of town on 89a.  On our next two visits, we stayed in the Village of Oak Creek – located a few miles south of Sedona on rte 179.  We prefer that area because its a bit quieter and has many shops and restaurants within walking distance as well as easy access to Bell Rock and other hiking areas a short drive away.

With its beautiful red rock landscape, hiking trails, galleries, restaurants and shops, Sedona is an ideal place to visit.  We prefer to visit in the Spring and Fall when temperatures are more bearable for us native New Englanders.

DSC5485-SO-flip-5553-5-kw-sig2-dgp-cr.jpgFor those of you interested in New Age spirituality, vortices, crystals, shamanism, healing, UFO’s and the paranormal, Sedona is chock full of resources for getting in touch with your inner seeker.

The pictures below show some of the locations in Sedona.  Click here to view more images from Arizona.

There are many places to visit and explore in Sedona and the surrounding area.  If you have a time limit or are otherwise unable to hike, there are many jeep tours that will bring to remote locations.  There are many other places we have yet to visit in there.  See our list below for places of interest and links to their websites which we have enjoyed during our visits to Sedona:

Amitabha Stupa   A Buddhist Stupa and Peace Park located on 89a on the west end of Sedona.

Bell Rock Trail  A beautiful trail and vista convenient to the nearby Village of Oak Creek.

Cathedral Rock Trail A very nice hike. I made it to the top with two arthritic knees.

Chapel of the Holy Cross  An interesting piece of architecture with a nice vista.

Crescent Moon Ranch State Park   Hiking trails, picnic area. Be sure to check out Buddha Beach.

Coffee Pot Restaurant  Named after the nearby Coffee Pot Rock, a great place to get breakfast.

Tlaquepaque  Arts and crafts, restaurants in a traditional Mexican architectural design.

Thai Palace Uptown  Authentic Thai cuisine located near the center of town.

The Views Inn of Sedona  We stayed there in October 2014. It was affordable and clean, very nice staff, outdoor pool and jacuzzi and good location.
